Smart Bin

In this project the students will build a prototype of a smart bin. The smart bin is used for collecting electronic waste and it's primarily used by children. The smart bin will use IoT-sensors for gamifying the recycling experience.

Project start: 2019-08-16
Duration: 3 months
Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3

Project Team

The main student team consists of 10 last semester bachelor level ICT students at Haaga-Helia. They have studied mainly web- and mobile-programming. The team is mentored by a teacher and an outside company representative.

Description of the roles of different participants

The project is proposed by an Italian company, Altares – Sartori Ambiente, working in the field of containers for waste sorting and recycling systems, exploiting also RFID and GPS technologies. They want to add to their products a new bin to enable the smart collection of e-waste.

Haaga-Helia’s students are leading this project. The students are responsible for implementing the project. We hope to get some help with the hardware from the students of the University of Trento.

FBK will collaborate with the University of Trento for the development of the hardware.
